Symphonic Voyages Introduces Unique Caribbean Music Festival at Sea

Every frigid January, Midwesterners find themselves yearning for a relaxing tropical retreat to escape the chill. Symphonic Voyages (SymphonicVoyages.com) offers the perfect solution for fans of classical music: a luxurious Caribbean cruise featuring onboard performances by a full symphony orchestra. Its upcoming Music Festival at Sea, featuring works by composer prodigies such as Mozart, Saint-Saens, and Prokofiev, takes place from January 23-February 2, 2012 on the Celebrity Millennium, as she sails from Miami to the islands of Roatán, Cozumel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. A Symphonic Voyage combines the aesthetic pleasures of a full-fledged classical music festival with the tranquility of a Caribbean escape from harsh winter weather. The schedule of SV activities on board includes concerts by a professional 54-member in-house symphony orchestra and internationally acclaimed soloists, a chamber music series featuring works by a composer-in-residence, pre-concert talks and Q&A sessions with the featured artists, film screenings, and other related social activities. The lineup of artists for 2012 includes Bill McGlaughlin, host of WMFT’s popular radio program “Exploring Music,” the GRAMMY-winning Parker Quartet, composer Roberto Sierra, and conductor Eckart Preu. In addition to enjoying a series of first-class performances, guests will have the unique opportunity to socialize with the accomplished musicians who are also their fellow passengers, taking part in an unforgettable music experience. Symphonic Voyages founder Eric Stassen hopes to make classical music less about the greatness of the past, and more about people forming relationships in the present and future. The concept for Symphonic Voyages came to Stassen shortly after graduating from the orchestral conducting program at Northwestern, where he and his classmates were strongly encouraged to create professional opportunities for themselves. While Symphonic Voyages may have started off as a chance for Stassen to promote his performing career, it soon became apparent that the experience he was creating for his clientele was what really mattered. This focus on customer satisfaction paid dividends on Symphonic Voyages’ successful January 2010 maiden voyage.
