Man arraigned on sex abuse charges
PARKERSBURG - A Wood County man wanted on charges of third-degree sexual abuse in Marion County was arraigned Wednesday in Wood County Magistrate Court.
Thomas Earl Jones, 28, 1505 Liberty St., Parkersburg, was arraigned before Wood County Magistrate Brenda Marshall for Marion County on five counts of third-degree sexual assault. He is in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaint, the incidents with which Jones has been charged took place five years ago.
On July 22, West Virginia State Police Cpl. Adam Scott meet with Jones at the Parkersburg detachment. Scott was investigating allegations that Jones had sexual intercourse with a girl of 12 to 13 years of age. Jones was 21 or 22 years of age at the time.
Jones allegedly said they had sex about 20 times, according to the criminal complaint.
During the interview Jones said he lived with his aunt and uncle in Fairmont five years ago. Jones said he was never kicked out of the house but left after his aunt caught him getting ready to perform an act on the child, the complaint states.
The parent did not call the police, Jones said. He said his aunt drove him back to Parkersburg after the alleged incident.
Jones said he and the girl had intercourse twice and he sexually touched her at least 10 times, according to the complaint. Jones said the acts were consensual and he knew it was wrong, the complaint states.

CHARLESTON -- Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy was selected the board chairman of the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Board last week during the board’s regular meeting.
Commissioner of Corrections Jim Rubenstein was selected to serve as board secretary.
Sandy was appointed to a four-year term on the board in January 2009.
“To my knowledge, this is the first time a county official has been elected to serve as chairman of the Regional Jail Authority,” Executive Director of the West Virginia Association of Counties Patty Hamilton said in a news release.
Three county officials are required to be voting members of the board.
"I plan to meet at least monthly with the Regional Jail Authority Director, Larry Parsons, in order to keep informed of important issues that will come before the Board," Sandy said in a news release.
