Two Records Fall at 2011 Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions

DES MOINES, Iowa (20/08/2011) (readMedia) - With one swing of the hammer final, the Foundation for the Advancement of Iowa agriculture (IAAF) has raised $ 286 300 for the 14 exhibitors and 4-H FFA Grand Champions in the sale of Champions Saturday, August 20, at the Fair 2011 Iowa State.

Two records were the champion in the sale. Heifer Reserve Champion 4-H market sold for a record $ 28 000, surpassing the previous mark of $ 20 000 set in 2008. The Pen Grand Champion 4-H Grill has also established a new record price of $ 5800. The previous record was set in 2010 with a price of $ 5700.

Participants in the sale of the champions were asked to find hometown supporters to set a floor price for bidding. The buyer of the auction paid the difference between the floor and the final sale price. Each participant in the sale to take home a check for 80 percent of the selling price of the animal. IAAF keeps 20 percent to fund the scholarship program and to cover the costs of sale. In addition to their income sales, the exhibitors of the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer, Grand Champion 4-H Market Swine and Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb make use of a livestock trailer aluminum for another year courtesy Featherlite, Inc.Du Cresco.

When added to the $ 147 000 scholarship and performance and carcass prices presented before the sale, the IFAA granted $ 429 700 of the exhibitors of livestock and poultry during the youth event the day. Since the beginning of the sale of Champions in 1988, the IFAA has distributed more than $ 4.3 million through product sales and scholarships to deserving young people participating in projects related to agriculture and interested in the agriculture-related careers.
