Houston Texans waive Amobi Okoye, a Lee High School alumnus
HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Texans placed 24-year-old Amobi Okoye, a graduate of Lee High in Huntsville, Ala., on waivers on Saturday after the Texans were unable to trade him, reports the Houston Chronicle's John McClain .Okoye, a defensive tackle, was the 10th overall selection by the Texans in the 2007 NFL Draft and played that season as a 20-year-old. At 16-years-old, Okoye played for the Louisville Cardinals.
Okoye recorded 5 1/2 sacks as a rookie in 2007 but has managed just 5 1/2 more since, leading to increased talk this offseason that the Texans would attempt to trade him.
Okoye was born in Anambra State, Nigeria, and moved to Huntsville when he was 12. He began playing football as a sophomore at Lee, eventually going on to win first-team All-State honors as both a defensive lineman and offensive lineman.
