Police blotter 7/31

Two people were injured when their motorcycle crashed while trying to avoid a collision on Interstate 81 in East Hanover Township late Saturday morning.

The driver, Gordon Aitken, 52, of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, was transported by First Aid and Safety Patrol to Hershey Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, a center spokeswoman said. A passenger, a 15-year-old boy from Scotland, was also transported to HMC but his name was not released by state police and his condition was not available. Police said he had moderate injuries.

Aitken's Yamaha 1300cc cycle was traveling south when an unknown vehicle moved from the right lane to the left lane and cut off the motorcycle, forcing it to overturn in the left lane at 11:33 a.m., police said.

The motorcycle was towed.

CRASH: Neptune Fire Co., Newmanstown ambulance and fire police responded to a crash in the area of 213 E. Main St. at 9:54 p.m. Friday.

INVESTIGATION: Cleona, Annville Union Hose, Neversink and Palmyra Citizen's fire companies, fire police and Central Medical Transport responded for an investigation inside 404 E. Chestnut St. at 11:42 p.m. Friday.

CRASH: First Aid and Safety Patrol responded to a crash involving a motorcycle near 791 Frystown Road, Bethel Township, at 1:03 a.m. Saturday. No details were available.

LANDING ZONE: Fredericksburg Fire Co. set up a landing zone for a helicopter at Frystown and Mount Zion roads at 1:11 a.m. Saturday.

West Cornwall

TREE ON WIRES: Mount Gretna Fire Co. responded to a tree on wires at 334 Old Mine Road at 3:03 a.m. Saturday.

Palmyra

FIRE ALARM: Citizen's and Campbelltown fire companies responded to an automatic fire alarm at First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch St., at 5:07 a.m. Saturday.

Jackson

CRASH: Myerstown's Keystone and Goodwill fire companies, fire police, Myerstown ambulance and First Aid and Safety Patrol responded to a crash involving a motorcycle at Route 422 and North Locust Street at 11:18 a.m. Saturday. No details were available.

The Yamaha VMAX Motorcycle Is certainly Not A Bike For Rookies ...

Do you commit a lot of time racing motorcycles or do you just prefer to hit the road on a fast cycle? The Yamaha VMAX, or Velocitus Maximus for short, first came on the market in 1985 and is considered to be one of the fastest motorcycles out there. This isn’t a motorcycle for beginners, but for those who are experienced, and wanting speed and excitement when riding their motorcycle. This particular bike is a continual top seller and the name VMAX is associated with speed.

The V-Boost, which can increase the power to 800 RMP, is its most incredible feature. Butterfly valves separate the four downshaft carburetors which deliver fuel to the cylinders. Many other hot rod types of bikes cannot offer the same horsepower of the V-Boost. The V-Boost furthermore allows VMAX quick and smooth acceleration. The first VMAX, that was only released in the United States, included a V4 1200 CC engine, and had 145 HP and V-Boost. The year 1986 saw the European release of a 104 HP style by Yamaha. The European bikes sadly lacked the formidable V-Boost. A digital electronic ignition was included with the motorcycle prior to being released in Japan in 1990.

As Europe began to enact challenging noise restrictions, the European model was changed. So in 1996 there was a switch to a black exhaust system by Yamaha, which unfortunately wasn’t very well received by bike owners, consequently the chrome design was back in 1998. However, not all bike riders prefer the power of the VMAX, the many members of the VMAX Owners Association are very satisfied with their bikes. The Association organizes different rallies and races for their multitude of members. The bike has even found its way into drag racing as well, since the VMAX with its speed gives many of the competitors an improved chance of winning. VMAX bikes that have been modified have at times exceeded speeds of 200 MPH in quarter mile events.

Since it was unveiled in 1985 the Yamaha VMAX is really a hot selling motorcycle. Its black and chrome color provides the bike a powerful and almost muscular look. For a lot of people this absence of originality is the only disadvantage. To help their motorcycle stand out from others, some folks have put their own personal spin on the bike’s appearance.
