Nashville Chamber of Commerce names 'Emerging Leader' winners

The groups' 2011 Impact Award, which honors a community leader who helps young professionals develop leadership skills, went to Joel Sullivan, regional CEO of the American Red Cross Nashville Area Chapter.

The awards committee said Sullivan continues to mentor young career enthusiasts in the Nashville Junior Chamber and has juggled that passion with duties at the American Red Cross, including managing relief efforts linked to the May 2010 floods in Middle Tennessee.

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and YP Nashville have announced the 2011 winners of the Nashville Emerging Leader Awards — 14 young professionals who are being recognized for their career accomplishments as well as interest in community service.

One winner was chosen in each of 14 distinct categories, including: architecture, engineering and construction; arts, entertainment and music business; business services; nonprofits and community service; education; financial services; government and public affairs; hospitality and tourism; human resources; legal services; health care; public relations, advertising and marketing; real estate; and technology.

Winners are under 40 years old, and they all live or work in the 10-county Nashville region. The Fifth Annual NELAs were sponsored by Lipscomb University College of Business, Mère Bulles, Tractor Supply Company and Tennessean Media Group.

Category winners were:

Architecture, engineering: Dominique Gobbell Arrieta; Gobbell Hays Partners, architect

A licensed architect with Gobbell Hays Partners, Inc., Arrieta has received honors from the Metro Nashville Historical Commission for her work with the Church Street Lofts and the Werthan Mills Lofts. Arrieta is involved with the Urban Land Institute Young Leaders, NAIOP Developing Leaders and the U.S. Green Building Council. Since 2006 she has been actively involved as a mentor and program team leader in the ACE Mentor Program of America, which encourages high school students to go to college and consider careers in architecture and engineering.

Arts, entertainment, music: Katherine Beakes; Universal Music Group, director of finance

Beakes began her career at Universal Music Group (UMG) as senior accountant, and has since assumed the role of director of finance. She took an active role in the 2005 merger of UMG and Dreamworks, which involved accepting additional duties for both labels. Later, Beakes earned an MBA while working full-time. She is a member of the Recording Academy, Women’s Music Business Association and the Country Music Association among various trade groups. And she volunteers with the Belmont Accounting Advisory Board, Junior League of Nashville, Hands on Nashville, Our Kids and the Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital.
