Breastfeeding support

Thursday, Aug. 4 — La Leche League Burlington South Group offers breastfeeding support and information through monthly group meetings. It meets at the Burlington & Area Midwives office, 4332 New St., at 8 p.m. Pregnant women, moms and nursing babies are welcome to attend. Burlington Humane garage sale

Saturday, Aug. 6 — Burlington Humane is planning a large garage sale. It will run from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the group’s animal shelter at 740 Griffith Ct., north off Fairview Street between Appleby and Walker’s lines. Drop off dates for items are Aug. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. All proceeds from the sale go to the care of stray cats and dogs in the community. Call 905-637-7325 for more information.

Probus club talk

Monday, Aug. 8 — The speaker at the next meeting of the Burlington Lakeshore Men’s Probus Club is re-enactor Jim Taggart, an active participant in Living History, the historical re-enactments hobby. He will discuss the American Civil War, sharing the experiences of some of the 50,000 Canadians that served on both sides between 1861-65. He also will talk about the medical practices and fallacies that were prevalent at the time. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the Burlington Art Centre, 1333 Lakeshore Rd. Bible camp

Sunday, Aug. 21 to Thursday, Aug. 25 — Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1299 Brant St., is holding its Big Jungle Adventure Bible Camp each day from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with an opening day barbecue and jumpy castle on the Sunday at 5 p.m. Explore Bible stories, make crafts, eat snacks, play games, sing songs and more.  The free program is for kids ages three to those beginning Grade 6.  Register by calling 905-332-7671 or e-mail popburl@bellnet.ca .
