CFL Rankings, Week 4: An eye for an eye

B.C. Lions defensive back Korey Banks criticized his team’s offence during an interview moments after their loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday. Banks quickly backtracked. Ticats receiver Arland Bruce, Mr. Controversy so far this season thanks to trade rumours and a bizarre name change to Runako Reth, bounced back from a lower-body injury with four catches for 56 yards.

Toronto Argonauts middle linebacker Ejiro Kuale was ejected from Saturday’s game after a high and late hit on Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce. The Argos accused the referees of treating Pierce differently than their passers . Cleo Lemon was knocked out of the game by a helmet-to-helmet hit, which did not draw a flag. Later in the day, the inconsistent Calgary Stampeders offence was booed by the fans at McMahon Stadium during a loss to the Edmonton Eskimos.

On Sunday, the Montreal Alouettes lost to the suddenly-resurgent Roughriders. Late in the fourth quarter defensive back Dwight Anderson poked receiver Weston Dressler in the eye resulting in a penalty. The league is now looking into the eye-gouging incident.

The only team seemingly immune from the chaos? The Eskimos. Unsurprisingly they are also the new leaders in our CFL Rankings. Here is the Week 4 edition: The Eskimos finally trailed in a game last week albeit only briefly. After winning handily in three straight games to open the season Edmonton showed it can win a tight game as well holding off their provincial rivals, who made a second half charge. Kavis Reed’s squad will face more adversity this week as defensive end Greg Peach (knee) and wide receiver Adarius Bowman (ribs) are both expected to miss Friday’s game.
